Thalassaemia Minor

The thalassaemic minor usually does not present any symptoms, having a totally normal life, working, practicing sports, etc. In most cases, the only noticeable alteration is the skin color, which becomes whiter than in normal people.


Thalassaemia Major

Children with Thalassaemia Major do not present any abnormalities when they are born. At the end of their first year of life, they develop paleness, irritability and tiredness. The belly may be swollen due to spleen enlargement, and these children don't grow as well as they should. In order to avoid worsening of symptoms, it is important to have the diagnosis established in the first two years of life.
